Pier 66 Maritime Educational Programs

Tour Pier 66 Maritime, a historic ship, and barge, and learn how the working harbor brings us what we need and helps the city grow!

History of Lightships

Both programs include New York Harbor history while visiting our historic lightship, the railroad barge and caboose. Then please choose a focus for your group’s activities after the main tour:

Lightship Frying Pan
Before modern navigation, lightships guided other ships into port. Hear sailor’s stories and use the code they used to communicate with at sea.

Erie Lackawanna Car Float and Caboose
The Car Float is a marine rail barge designed to ferry railroad cars across our waterways. Learn why this historic transportation is being revived today, and try to load your own model car float.
